The NewEnglandFreezers U18 Team was created with varsity players across several high school teams: Wilmington, Assabet, Auburn, Medford, Bishop Fenwick, Winchendon School, and E.O.Smith HS. The players seemed to gel as soon as they met in the locker room which made the weekend great. First game out of the gate the Freezers got their feet going and dominated the game. Peter Kourkoutas ended up with 2 goals and an assist leading the team to a 4-0 victory. Game two that evening started a little slower, the Edge came to play and dictated play for the first 7 minutes. The Freezers adjusted mentally and turned on the jets scoring 4 goals in second period with Jared Venezia leading the charge with 2 goals and an assist, and went on to 5-2 victory. Game three was a show of offensive power by the Freezers with Brian Roy(4 Goals, 1 Assist) and Jared Venezia(2 Goals 1 Assist) posting big numbers in the team’s 8-2 Victory. Game 4 showed lots of heart as it was the 4th game in 48 hours and second within 3 hours. The Edge again came out on all cylinders but the Freezers took control and turned in a gem with a 3-0 victory. Joe Hill led the team with 2 goals in this one. Going 4-0 in preliminary games put the Freezers in the Gold Medal game on Sunday against the Blues. The Championship Game brought out the best of both teams, the Blues added some highly skilled players that played a great defensive possession game limiting our chances. The Freezers found the back of the net in the first to go up 1-0, then it was stalemate till the start of the third. The Freezers started the third period with a big goal from Brian Pacheco to make it 2-0, then Joe Hill added his second of the game from Pacheco to make it 3-0, Final, bringing the Championship to these U18 Freezers. The combination of Steve Barry and Shane Pantridge between the pipes came away with three shutout games! The defense combo of Chris Freeman, Zach Shirm, Brian Pacheco and Ethan Mattuccio were just solid all weekend, also contributing a goal and several assists to the offense. Brendan George, Jason Davey, Max Ray, Blake Witkowski, Aidan Cornwell also contributed in all three zones all weekend long with key goals, assists, key contributions to penalty kills. Great job to these kids on an outstanding weekend of play.
