The team went 2-1-1 behind a strong defense and the goaltending of Chris Moniz (Pingree School). The Freezers tied the first game of the tournament against AB Hockey. Ryan Sheft (BB&N) scored the team’s first goal of the season. The Freezers later rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game with an assist and the tying goal by Joe Mack (Lynnfield H.S). Despite a dominating second half performance the team was unable pull of the win. Game 2 saw Blue take on the New Jersey Hitmen in a physical match up. The Malden Catholic defensive duo of Jack Sullivan and Brendan Maloney played solid defense all game as the Hitmen attacked. Tyler Hughey (Middlesex School) and Brendan Ronan (Saugus H.S.) combined for both goals in a 2-1 victory. The second tilt on Saturday was a drama filled event resulting in a Freezers win. Goalie Chris Moniz was outstanding in goal. The 4th seeded Freezers then faced off against the 5th seeded No VT Wildcats in the quarterfinals. It was a fast paced all out game by both teams. The Freezers drew first blood on a goal by Derek Flynn (Lowell Catholic H.S.), but the Wildcats fought back to take a 3-1 lead. Josh Rameriz (USPHL Islanders) started the comeback with a solo goal late in the game to close the game to 3-2. Blue threw everything they had at the Wildcat goal for the final minute thirty with Moniz on the bench, but couldn’t bury the tying goal. It was a great first tournament by the team and an exciting performance. The U18 Freezers Blue now move on to the Senior Chowder Cup in July.
